That’s a comfortable, pleasant kind of warm compared to Medford’s noticeably more intense July stretch, which explains why climate writers repeatedly single out the Rogue Valley rather than eastern Washington’s desert towns when identifying the region’s true heat leader.

The Pacific Northwest has the best chance among all U.S. regions of having a hotter-than-average summer, with the odds better than 60 percent that temperatures will run above normal. For a city already sitting at the top of the region’s heat rankings, that forecast suggests Medford’s grip on the title isn’t loosening anytime soon.
